Bucheon The City
Bucheon is a city in the Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It is sandwiched between Incheon and Seoul. Now about the size of Honolulu, only a few decades ago Bucheon was a rural farm town about an hour's drive from Seoul. It is a well-organized metropolitan city with large parks, several department stores, (including Hyundai, Walmart, and Home Plus) numerous Korean and western restaurants, and an outdoor film studio.
Bucheon is the cultural centre of the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most famous orchestras in Korea, and since 1997 Bucheon has been host to The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in Asia.
There are four institutions of higher education in Bucheon: Bucheon College, Yuhan College, Catholic University of Korea, Bucheon campus, and Seoul Theological University.Bucheon is also home to the K-League soccer side Bucheon SK and the professional basketball team the Black Slamers.
There are over 100 English academies (hogwons) in Bucheon operating for students ranging from preschool to adults.
Bucheon has a population of 850,731 people according to a 2005 census.
Bucheon is roughly an hour drive from both Seoul and Incheon.
